Extinction is a serious problem that continues to happen on our planet. There were many animals that once roamed our earth, but no longer exist. This is very sad to some degree. On the other end, it can be a relief. Kinds of archaeological evidence show that some extinct animals are really terrible. Following the 10 most dangerous that ever lived may shock you.

1.Titanoboa cerrejonensis

If you’re afraid of snakes, it’s best to skip this one. That’s because there has never been a larger snake than the Titan Python. The titan python, believed to have lived during the Paleocene period, was about 40 feet long. Paleontologists estimate that the titan python was 12 meters (40 feet) long and weighed about 1.1 metric tons (2,425 pounds). Scary, right? Titan pythons appeared shortly after the dinosaurs went extinct, appearing to fill the void left by the demise of the dinosaurs

2. Sarcosuchus

This giant predator is called a SuperCroc, and it gives you an idea of its size. While not technically a crocodile, Sarcosuchus is its distant relative, the main difference being their size. From the Cretaceous period, meat crocodiles lived in what is today Africa and South America. It was a 40-foot-long, 10-ton reptile with crocodile-like features. These measurements may seem intimidating, but crocodiles lived alongside dinosaurs, which means they needed to be big and strong!

3. Arthropleura

Would you consider yourself a bug phobia? If this is the case, then you need to know Athropleura. This creature is identical to a centipede in almost every way, except for one: its sheer size. Arthropluera is larger than a centipede, and it has knobby ribs over 7.5 feet, making it a very large creature. Arthropleura is by far the largest of all invertebrates that have ever existed.

4. Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus lived in Egypt, Morocco, and the Republic of Niger during the Cretaceous period. In terms of size, Spinosaurus is the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever discovered! In fact, it was even longer and heavier than the T-rex, another famous example of a giant carnivorous dinosaur. Spinosaurus’ skull is estimated to have been about 6 feet long. Its body may also have been over 59 feet long, 19 feet longer than that of a T-rex. We’re glad we didn’t have to encounter this terrifying extinct animal!

The Megalodon was an extinct giant shark that lived between 2.8 and 1.5 million years ago. The megalodon, known as the giant shark, is often thought to be similar to the modern great white shark, and its name means “big tooth.” While great whites can grow up to 20 feet long and weigh up to 7,000 pounds, the megalodon is estimated to be 60 feet long and weigh as much as 50 tons. The megalodon went extinct just 2.6 million years ago. As a result, it ate animals that still exist today, such as giant turtles, porpoises and whales.

6. Gorgonops

Before the advent of dinosaurs, our planet had many terrifying prehistoric creatures. A good example is gorgonops, an animal that existed 260 million years ago before dinosaurs became major predators. In terms of size, Gorgonops are about 10 feet long and weigh about 1,000 pounds. In terms of size, it should be as big as a great white shark. Gorgonops may be warm-blooded, and this is one of the most fascinating facts about it. This means it probably has a layer of fur covering it. That’s hard to tell, however, as Gorgonops photos show they look more like lizards than anything else.

Apparently, these animals only eat plant foods.

If you were in the Carboniferous period, some 300 million years ago, Magneura will surprise you. The biggest difference between modern dragonflies and dragonflies of the past is their size. With a wingspan of nearly 2.5 feet, it is one of the largest insects ever on Earth. In those days, the giant star ruled the sky. It hunts insects as well as larger creatures such as frogs and salamanders.

10. Arctodus simus

The Arctodus simus an extinct bear species that were native to North America during the Pleistocene epoch about 1.8 million years ago. During that time, Arctodus simus was probably the largest meat-eating land mammal. The last thing we want is to see it and be its next meal! When standing, it reaches a height of 3.5 m (11.4 ft) and weighs more than 1 metric ton (2204 lb). These bears are estimated to be 50 percent larger than the largest polar bears in history.
